No. 13 BYU to face Saint Mary's, Pacific at home

PROVO, Utah – No. 13 BYU women’s volleyball returns home to the Smith Fieldhouse this week for a pair of conference matches against Saint Mary’s and Pacific.

Last Time Out

The Cougars (14-2, 3-1 West Coast Conference) beat Pepperdine on the road in four sets before falling in a tight three-set match against No. 6 San Diego.

Saint Mary’s

  • BYU faces off against Saint Mary’s (8-8, 3-2 WCC) Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. MDT.
  • The Cougars lead the Gaels in the overall series history 9-7 and picked up two sweeps last year.
  • BYU has won four-straight against Saint Mary’s.
  • The Gaels won two of three matches last week – against San Francisco and Pepperdine – falling to Loyola Marymount in four.
  • Saint Mary’s currently sits in fourth place in the league standings.
  • The Gaels went 6-22, 1-17 WCC a year ago.

Pacific

  • The Cougars will then compete against the Tigers (10-7, 4-1 WCC) Saturday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. MDT.
  • BYU leads Pacific in the overall series history 10-7, including wins last year on the road in five and at home in a sweep.
  • The Tigers have never beaten the Cougars while in the West Coast Conference (six attempts).
  • Pacific is off to a hot start in league play, having won four of five with the only loss coming against Pepperdine.
  • The Tigers are in second place in WCC play, a half a match ahead of BYU.
  • Pacific finished tied for fifth in league play last year with a 17-13, 8-10 WCC record.

Additional Info

Thursday’s match against Saint Mary’s will be a ROC party. There will be free pregame pizza for the ROC as well as free In N Out vouchers to 100 random members of the ROC. Additionally, there will be free bandannas for students on the floor as well as a spikeball tournament.

Saturday’s match against Pacific is Family Day. Entire families can enter with a $15 family pass. Pass of all Pass holders will get into the match for free. Additionally, there will be four hot dogs available for purchase for $4. There will also be free face painters, games, giveaways and prizes.
