PROVO -- BYU outscored and outplayed the University of Utah Utes 4-0 Saturday.

"The team really came to play," said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We got off to a great start with lots of energy and intensity. I think we were able to set the tone for the game in the first few minutes."

In the fourth minute of the game BYU got its first goal. After a corner kick, Heidi Dearborn shot the ball towards the goal with the ball ending up near Katie Fellows. Fellows went to kick the ball back to a teammate but the ball was deflected by a Ute and ended up in their goal.

Katie Larkin scored the second goal of the night in the 37th minute of play. Larkin dribbled the ball into the center of the field and made the shot from 22 yards back.

"I was pleased with our offensive attack; our forwards were confident in going at Utah's defense and were able to hit some great long range shots," said Rockwood.

Stephanie Staples scored the third goal of the night during the 41st minute of the game with an assist from Whitney Feller.

Fellows scored the last goal of the game in the 68th minute. Kelsea Kakadelas passed the ball to Natalie Nate who passed the ball to Fellows. Fellows shot the ball from close to 25 yards out from the goal.

The Alumni game held shortly after the Utah game ended with a similar result. BYU beat its alumni 3-1. Fellows, Jessica Aquino and Amanda Draeger all made goals.

The women's soccer team will play again on Saturday matching up against Idaho State and Utah State. The last game in the 2007 spring season will begin at noon at BYU.
