NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association announced the nomination of BYU senior quarterback Tanner Mangum to the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Tuesday.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has been one of the most esteemed honors in college football for more than 25 years. The student-athletes who are nominated for this award not only demonstrate a unique dedication to community service and desire to make a positive impact on the lives around them, but they also show tremendous perseverance as well as the ability to overcome personal struggles and come out victorious against all odds.

Mangum, one of 169 nominees, was recognized for various roles throughout the community, especially as an advocate for mental health awareness. He has served as a member of the BYU counseling and psychological services (CAPS) student outreach group on campus and as a member of the BYU student athlete advisory committee's mental health awareness group. Mangum has been a guest speaker at several activities and programs, including the Intermountain Health Care Mental Health Summit and the Nebraska behavioral health system health webinar.

The Eagle, Idaho native has been the subject of several local and national news stories focusing on different aspects of mental health, including articles and videos from USA Today, ESPN, CBS and the National Football Foundation.

Along with his work to promote mental health awareness, Mangum has also participated in team activities that include BYU head coach Kalani Sitake's More2Life service trips to New York City and Los Angeles. The More2Life Foundation visits disadvantaged youth and provides them with mentoring and other services.

During his career at BYU on the field, Mangum has started 21 games including 12 as a freshman. He was the first BYU freshman to reach 3,000 passing yards in one season. He has completed 436 of 736 passes for 5,158 yards and 34 touchdowns during his career.
