BYU All-American Colohan named to Hermann Watchlist

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – BYU women's soccer All-American Mikayla Colohan was named to the 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy watch list today by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club.

Colohan is one of just five Hermann Trophy semifinalists from 2019 to be named to the group of 54 student-athletes on the 2020-21 watch list. Since 1988, the MAC Hermann Trophy has been awarded annually to the top collegiate soccer player in the nation. 

“It’s a real honor for Mikayla to be nominated to the Hermann Trophy watch list again this year,” BYU women’s head soccer coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “She is certainly deserving and has earned the honor through hard work and the way she competes every time she takes the pitch.”

Colohan and senior forward Elise Flake were named to the Hermann watch list in 2019 and both advanced to the semifinalist list joining Ashley Hatch (2016) and Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall (2012) as Cougars to receive that honor. 

In 2019, Colohan headlined the postseason awards for BYU. The junior midfielder accounted for 16 goals and seven assists on her way to being named WCC Player of the Year. She was a finalist for the Honda Sports Award, semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, was named first-team United Soccer Coaches All-America and first-team Scholar All-America. 

Colohan was recently selected by the Orlando Pride with the 14th overall pick in the 2021 National Women's Soccer League Draft. She will compete for BYU this spring, then finish her collegiate eligibility in the fall before turning professional.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in collegiate soccer. This year’s award was pushed back to accommodate the fall season that was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The winner will be announced May 27 at the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy Press Conference and at an awards banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
