BYU men’s golf posted a 2-under-par final round of 286 to win the William H. Tucker Invitational in New Mexico on Saturday.

The Cougars' 54-hole total of 841 was 19 shots better than host New Mexico, who finished second at 860. Rounding out the top five were Louisville (866), San Diego (867) and New Mexico State (870).

“The team played some great golf this week and I am really proud of them,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “To have all six players in the top-25 for the week was very impressive. I’m not sure we’ve reached that level of play in a while.”

Four Cougars posted top-10 finishes led by Keanu Akina who tied for second individually at 8-under par.  The sophomore shot rounds of 74-64-70—208 giving him his best finish in six events at BYU.

Carson Lundell shot a 54-hole total of 3-under par and finished in solo ninth with rounds of 72-68-73—213. Max Brenchley rounded out the top-10 with a tied for 10th place finish following rounds of 70-74-70—214.

“This was one of our best team performances in years,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “I'm really excited about this season and the talent we have on the team.

Cole Ponich, who competed as an individual, shot even par at 74-71-71—216 to tie for 13th. Tyson Shelley locked up a top-25 finish in his first event as a Cougar posting a 3-over total with rounds of 73-70-76.
