Zac Jones tied for third, Cougars in eighth at Kapolei Invitational

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – BYU men’s golf is in eighth after carding an 11-under-par, 277, opening round of the Kapolei Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course.

Zac Jones sits in an eight-way tie for third at six-under-par, just one shot off the leader. The junior had a hot start as he birdied six out of his first seven holes.

Max Brenchley is tied for 11th after carding seven birdies in his five-under opening round of 67. Senior Cole Ponich, who is participating as an individual, carded a three-under 69 to start the tournament and sits in a tie for 28th.

Cooper Jones (71, -1), Kenau Akina (73, +1) and Peter Kim (75, +3) round out the Cougar squad.

Florida Gulf Coast currently sits at the top of the leaderboard after carding a 20-under-par opening round. Big 12 foe Baylor is just one shot off the lead at 19-under. Texas State is in third at 17-under-par.

The Cougars will continue play in round two on Wednesday, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. HST. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
