Former Cougar Stephanie Rovetti and USA Women's Eagles begin Olympic quest on Sunday

Former BYU women’s basketball player Stephanie Rovetti is set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics as she suits up for the United States Rugby Women’s Eagles Sevens team.

SAINT-DENIS, France — Former BYU women’s basketball player Stephanie Rovetti is set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics as she suits up for the United States Rugby Women’s Eagles Sevens team.

Rovetti played for the Cougars from 2010-14 where she helped BYU to a 102-34 record, the 2011 Mountain West Conference regular season title, the 2012 West Coast Conference Tournament title, two trips to the NCAA Tournament and the 2014 Sweet 16.

The now Olympian appeared in 64 games across two seasons with the Cougars and scored 2.4 points per game on 37 percent shooting, grabbed 1.3 rebounds, dished 95 assists and recorded 38 steals.

After her collegiate basketball career, Rovetti switched to rugby where she has put together a successful career both in the club and international scenes. She earned MVP honors at the 2018 Club Sevens National Championships where she led the San Diego Surfers to the championship title.

After her MVP performance, Rovetti was invited to the residency camp with the Women’s Eagles Sevens where she was selected to the 2018 team. He made her debut in the 2018 USA Women’s Sevens tournament where she and the U.S. earned the silver medal.

After injuries sidelined her for a few seasons, Rovetti embarked on a comeback tour that led her to selections to the 2023-24 SVNS Series and to the 2024 Paris Olympic Team.

Rovetti and the U.S. team will take on Japan in the first group stage game on Sunday, July 28 at 8:30 a.m. MDT  before facing Brazil at noon MDT. The Women’s Eagles' final game of pool play will be at 6 a.m. MDT on Monday, July 29 against the host country France.
