BOSTON – Carter Cutting broke the school record in the indoor mile, while Tayvon Kitchen moved to No. 2 all-time in the 5000-meter and Isaac Hedengren set the No. 3 mark in the 3000m at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday.

Cutting took 11th in the mile, crossing the line in a school-record 3:54.38. The Wilsonville, Oregon native cut two seconds off his personal best to set the record after moving up to No. 3 on BYU’s all-time list just last month. The junior took the top spot from Miles Batty, who set the previous record in 2012 with a 3:54.54, and also surpassed Lucas Bons’ 3:54.82 effort from 2024. Cuttings school record performance marks the nineth fastest time in the NCAA this season.

Kitchen, fresh off his 2025 All-American cross country season, set the No. 2 all-time BYU record in the 5000m with a time of 13:19.17. The true freshman finished third overall, cutting more than 10 seconds off his personal best. Kitchen also posted the eighth-fastest time in the NCAA this season in the event.

Hedengren set the No. 3 all-time BYU record in the 3000m, crossing the line in 7:44.51. The Provo, Utah native finished third overall, improving his personal best by more than 12 seconds.

Joining the record-setting efforts from the distance crew, Creed Thompson finished just behind Kitchen in the 5000m, taking fifth overall in 13:21.43. The senior from Lehi, Utah finished two seconds short of his own record, which now ranks No. 3 all-time. Noah Jenkins finished 10th in 13:32.19, setting the No. 7 all-time mark in the event last month.

Liam Heninger made his first collegiate appearance in the 3000m, finishing 52nd in 8:07.86. Teammates Dalton Mortenson, Garrett Stanford, Hunter Kitchen, Land Lambert and Jefferson McMullin all set personal-best times in the 5000m.
