Cougars gear up for multi-meet weekend across Utah and California

PROVO, Utah – BYU will split its squad this weekend, competing at the Bryan Clay Multis on April 9-10 in Azusa, California, and the Utah-Weber State Spring Classic on April 10-11 at McCarthy Family Track and Field Complex and Stewart Stadium.

Bryan Clay Multis

Zoey Bonds and Tia Brown are set to compete in the heptathlon for the first time this season. Bonds ranks No. 7 all-time in the 100-meter hurdles with her 13.46 at the Trojan Invitational, while Brown placed third in the 400-meter hurdles at the meet, clocking a 1:00.15.

Weber State Spring Classic

The throws squad will be represented by Kaiah Fisher, Lia Katoa, Kat Beachler, Lia Pili and Jayda Lee. Fisher highlights the discus after setting the No. 5 all-time program mark last weekend at the Bobcat Invitational with a throw of 54.60m/179-2. Katoa also posted a top mark at the meet, recording the No. 4 all-time mark in the hammer throw at BYU with a 58.25m/191-1.

Mae Johnson and Sarena Mackley are set to compete in the jumps, with both entered in the high jump and Mackley also competing in the long jump. Johnson is coming off a third-place finish in the high jump at the Bobcat Invitational, where she cleared 1.71m/5-7.25.

Berklie Ahlander and Madelynne Taggart will compete in the 100m hurdles, while Mikensi Smith is set to run the 100m.

Utah Spring Classic

Mackley is set for the javelin and shot put, with Fisher and Pili joining her in the shot put.

Hurdlers Ahlander and Taggart will also compete in the 400m hurdles and later line up for the 4x400-meter relay with Mackley and Smith.
