MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — BYU golfer María José “MJ” Barragán made the cut Thursday at the 112th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at The Toronto Golf Club.
Barragán carded a 5-over-par 76 in each of the first two rounds of stroke play to advance after the field was cut to the low 70 players and ties for the final 36 holes.
In the first round, the Mexico native opened with a bogey on No. 2 and played the rest of the front nine at even par to make the turn at 1 over. Barragán recorded bogeys on Nos. 10, 11, 16 and 18 on the back nine to finish with a 5-over 76.
Barragán began the second round with a birdie on No. 1. After a bogey on No. 4, the senior recorded another birdie on No. 8 and a double bogey on No. 9 to move to 1 over after nine holes. Bogeys on Nos. 10, 12, 15 and 17 gave Barragán another 5-over 76 to finish round two.
The rising senior's 10-over 36-hole total put her in a tie for 60th and inside the cut line. Barragán tees off at 4:20 p.m. in Thursday's third round before the final round on Friday. Live scoring is available at golfgenius.com.
