MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — BYU golfer María José “MJ” Barragán tied for 40th on Friday at the 112th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at The Toronto Golf Club.
After making the cut with the field of 70 players and ties, Barragán continued play Thursday with a third-round 2-over 73. The rising senior opened with a birdie on No. 1 but followed with a double bogey on No. 2. After a bogey on No. 4, Barragán played the rest of the front nine cleanly. She offset a birdie on No. 13 with a bogey on No. 16 to close the round.
Barragán carded another 2-over 73 in the final round Friday. She opened with birdies on Nos. 1, 3 and 6 before a bogey on No. 7 and a double bogey on No. 9 brought her back to even par at the turn. Barragán added a birdie on No. 13 and bogeys on Nos. 14 and 17 to complete her championship performance.
Barragán finished at 14-over with rounds of 76-76-73-73. Her 298 total marked her best performance in two appearances at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, improving on her 307 total and tie for 42nd in 2025.
BYU women’s golf assistant coach Alex White served as Barragán’s caddie at the event.
Japan native Rina Kawasaki finished the tournament at 6-under to win the championship.
