LIHUE, Hawaii — BYU women’s golf is tied for first at 4 over par after the opening round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Ocean Course at Hokuala on Monday.
Tatum Otto shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for fifth to lead the Cougars, while three BYU golfers finished the day in the top 10.
“It was really windy today, so being proactive was key,” head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We bounced back really well and stayed in it until the end.”
Starting on the fifth hole, Otto opened with three pars before a bogey on No. 8 to move to 1 over. The freshman responded with birdies on Nos. 11 and 14 before playing the remaining holes at par to finish at 1 under.
María José “MJ” Barragán and Kate Walker are tied for seventh after carding even-par 72s. Barragán opened with consecutive birdies on Nos. 9 and 10 to move to 2 under. After two bogeys and two birdies, the senior recorded a double bogey on the 17th and a bogey on the 18th. She responded with two birdies and a bogey over the final three holes to finish at even par.
