IRVING, Texas – BYU guard Delaney Gibb was one of four unanimous selections to the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Preseason Team, with the Cougars picked seventh in the conference’s preseason coaches’ poll.

The seventh-place selection is BYU’s highest preseason ranking since joining the Big 12 before the 2023-24 season. The Cougars have outperformed their preseason ranking in two of their three seasons in the conference, including a ninth-place finish a year ago — their highest as a Big 12 member.

BYU finished 26-12 last season, posting a 9-9 Big 12 record and ninth-place finish while earning a trip to the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament championship game — all in head coach Lee Cummard’s first season.

The Cougars’ 26 wins were the second-most in a season in program history and the most by a first-year head coach. Their 9-9 conference record and ninth-place finish were both the program’s best since joining the Big 12.

Gibb and Olivia Hamlin each earned All-Big 12 honors last season. Gibb was named to the first team, while Hamlin received honorable mention recognition and was selected to the All-Freshman Team.

Gibb’s list of conference honors continues to grow with her unanimous selection to the 2026-27 Preseason All-Big 12 Team, being unanimously selected for the second consecutive season.

She was named the unanimous Big 12 Freshman of the Year and to the All-Big 12 Second Team after earning 10 Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards during the 2024-25 season, the second-most in conference history. Last season, Gibb earned a unanimous selection to the preseason all-conference team and received All-Big 12 First Team honors at the conclusion of the season.

Gibb had no sophomore slump, leading the Cougars to the second-most wins in program history with 26 while averaging 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

The Cougar floor general scored in double figures in 29 of 38 games, recorded 12 20-point performances and scored a career-high 37 points in an 86-74 win at Utah. She also recorded at least five assists in 16 games, with BYU going 12-4 in those contests.

Gibb averaged 29.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game during the Cougars’ three-game winning streak to close the regular season. The junior was named to the Big 12 Starting Five three times en route to an All-Big 12 First Team selection.

In the postseason, Gibb helped the Cougars to a 6-2 record, including two Big 12 Tournament wins — their first since joining the conference — and four victories that sent them to the WBIT championship game.

Gibb and the Cougars open the season against the Idaho State Bengals on Nov. 3, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Marriott Center.
