- Prepped at Woods Cross High School
- Won the state Heisman Trophy award
- All-state in cross country and track
- Placed third in state cross country finals
- Won the state title in the 800m and mile as a junior and was runner-up in the 800m as a senior
- Won the 800m as a sophomore
- Holds four school records for track in the 800m, 1,600m, medley relay and 4x800 relay
- Lettered four times in track and soccer, three times in cross country and once in basketball
- Was a state Sterling Scholar finalist in music
- Was all-state in orchestra
