Austin Collie – Football – Junior – El Dorado Hills, Calif.
Biletnikoff Award finalist Austin Collie had seven catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns, leading No. 14 BYU to a 38-24 victory over Air Force. In the process Collie set a new BYU single-season receiving record with 1,315 yards. The junior, from El Dorado Hills, Calif., needs just 35 yards to become BYU’s all-time leading receiver.
Trailing Air Force 14-10 at half, Collie gave an emotionally charged speech at halftime then demonstrated his leadership further by his play on the field. Midway through the third quarter, Collie took a direct snap and ran for 15 yards and a first down. Six plays later, he caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Max Hall to give BYU a 31-14 lead with 5:15 remaining in the third quarter.
With BYU clinging to a 31-24 lead and under six minutes to play in the game, Collie had a rush for eight yards and caught two passes for first downs in a seven-play drive that covered 85 yards. The drive ended in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Hall to Collie that sealed the victory for BYU.
Collie continues to lead the nation in receiving yards per game (119.55) and total yards receiving (1,315). He is also third in the nation in total receptions (86) and sixth in both receptions per game (7.73) and touchdowns (15). His 130 yards against Air Force extends his MWC record of consecutive 100-yard games to nine straight, dating back to Sept. 13 versus UCLA.
Max Hall – Football – Junior – Mesa, Ariz.
Davey O’Brien semifinalist Max Hall converted 28-of-37 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 14 BYU to a 38-24 victory over Air Force. The win gives BYU a chance to capture a piece of the MWC title with a win over Utah on Saturday.
Trailing Air Force 14-10 at half, Hall was nearly perfect in the second half, completing 13-of-17 passes for 168 touchdowns. Twelve of Hall’s 13 second-half completions resulted in first downs to keep drives alive. Hall accounted for 354 of BYU’s 480 yards of total offense (74 percent).
Hall's two touchdown passes against Air Force gives him 34 on the season and sets a new single-season MWC record previously held by current BYU quarterbacks coach Brandon Doman who passed for 33 touchdowns in 2001.
He is currently top 9 in the country in seven offensive categories including points (20), yards (3,424), completions (25.4), total offense (316.5), touchdowns (34) efficiency (170), yards per game (311.3).
Mitch Payne – Football – Sophomore – North Ogden, Utah
Kicker Mitch Payne scored eight points in BYU’s 38-24 victory over San Diego State. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound sophomore from Ogden, Utah connected on a field goal of 46 yards in the first quarter, helping BYU to an early 10-0 lead.
Payne was perfect on the day hitting five-for-five extra points and the 46-yard field goal attempt.
Kayla Walker – Volleyball – Junior – Kaysville, Utah
Junior outside hitter Kayla Walker helped BYU put No. 23 Utah on the ropes Friday night as the Cougars were up two sets to one before falling in five sets. Walker led all players with 20 kills, marking the second time this season she has tallied at least 20 winners, the only Cougar to do so.
She also posted her sixth double-double and third in the last five matches with 14 digs. Showing her stellar all-around play, Walker tied her career high with eight blocks, a match high that helped BYU outblock the nation’s No. 2 team in that category, 12.0-6.5.
Since moving to the rightside on Oct. 17, Walker has led BYU in kills and ranked second in hitting percentage, digs and blocks. On the year, she is seventh overall in kills and fifth in points. In league play, she is third in kills and fourth in points.
