PROVO, Utah - The BYU football team began its third week of spring practice with another outdoor session on Monday afternoon.

The team continues to improve and prepare for the 2013 season as spring ball nears its midway point. Several players have made strides and continue to work hard to establish a place on the squad.

In team 11-on-11 work at the end of practice, running back Jamaal Williams took a handoff from quarterback Ammon Olsen 60 yards up the middle for the session's only touchdown. After that it was the defense holding strong the rest of the way.

Defensive lineman Theodore King had a pass breakup at the line of scrimmage while fellow lineman Marques Johnson had a sack. Linebacker Austen Jorgensen also picked up a sack.

On the offensive side of the ball, wide receiver Eric Thornton was a standout, making multiple athletic plays all over the field. He caught a 33-yard pass that he had to wrestle a defensive back to get and grabbed another 40-yarder down the sideline from quarterback Christian Stewart.

The Cougars will hit the practice field again on Wednesday afternoon.
