PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — BYU freshman offensive lineman Campbell Barrington was named a Freshman All-American by the Maxwell Football Club. He was one of 22 players (11 offense and 11 defense) named to the prestigious team.

Barrington, a 6-6, 285-pound freshman from Spokane, Washington, started six games for BYU on the offensive line after playing a reserve role earlier in the season. He has helped the Cougars to an 10-2 record and a No. 12 national ranking.

He has also been instrumental in helping BYU running back Tyler Allgeier rush for a FBS leading 20 touchdowns and 1,409 yards (No. 6 nationally). Allgeier was a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award and is a strong All-America candidate.

Barrington is also on the watch list for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to the outstanding freshman in college football.

The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award is named in honor of the former standout at the University of Alabama who later became the 2005 NFL MVP with the Seattle Seahawks. Past winners of the award include Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) in 2018, Kenneth Gainwell (Memphis) in 2019 and Will Anderson Jr. (Alabama) in 2020.

The Maxwell Football Club will announce the 10 semifinalists for the Shaun Alexander Award on Dec. 2, 2021. Three finalists for the award will be unveiled on Dec. 21, with the winner announced on Monday Jan. 10, 2022. The formal presentations of the awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on March 11.
