Pochman Sets BYU Career Field Goal Record

Junior place kicker Owen Pochman set the BYU career field goal record after splitting the uprights on a 28-yard attempt at New Mexico. Pochman has 35 career field goals, passing Leonard Chitty who had tallied 34 from 1986-87. Since starting the season 0-3 on field goal attempts, Pochman has connected on six of his last eight attempts, including three straight.

Paper or Plastic???

The Cougar defense registered a season-high seven sacks against New Mexico, including a career-high four sacks (for a combined loss of 27 yards) by junior defensive end Setema Gali. Entering the game, BYU had tallied just eight sacks for a combined loss of 59 yards.

By Day He's a Mild-Mannered Student, By Night ...

Freshman superstar Luke Staley came another step closer to Freshman-of-the-Year honors with his eighth rushing touchdown of the season. Early in the third quarter, Staley scampered down field for a 61-yard touchdown, marking the teams longest play from scrimmage this season. Staley has scored nine touchdowns on the season, averaging 10.8 points per game. Staley has scored at least one touchdown in every game he has played this season.

BYU Looks to Continue its Winning Tradition

Having posted a 5-1 record on the season, BYU need just one more win to guarantee its 25th straight winning season. Saturday's win at New Mexico marked BYU's 420th win since the program was reestablished in 1922.

Air BYU

Against New Mexico, senior quarterback Kevin Feterik completed 15-of-27 attempts for 211 yards and one touchdown, marking the 11th straight game the Cougars have had at least one touchdown via the air. Feterik did not play in the fourth quarter.

Rockin' Rookies

Against New Mexico, the Cougars scored four touchdowns -- all by freshmen. Fahu Tahi picked up his first two collegiate touchdowns, while Bristol Olomua cashed in on his first touchdown reception, grabbing a 4-yard strike from senior quarterback Kevin Feterik. Luke Staley added a 61-yard run early in the third quarter to help BYU put the game out of reach. Staley and Tahi have combined on 10 rushing touchdowns this season -- the only two players to score rushing TDs for the Cougars this season.

Everybody Wants to Get Into the Act

Adding Bristol Olomua to his list of receivers, senior QB Kevin Feterik has connected with 16 different receivers on the season. Feterik threw completions to seven different receivers against New Mexico, marking a season low.
