JJ Di Luigi moved into 11th on the BYU career rushing yards list with 42 yards against Idaho. Di Luigi now has 1,670 career rushing yards, 284 behind Brian McKenzie’s 1,954 yards.
SUPER SOPH
Sophomore Kyle Van Noy totaled a career-high 10 tackles, including a career-best 9 solo tackles. Van Noy also added 2 TFL, a sack and a forced fumble.
WERE YOU ALIVE WHEN…?
BYU’s win is its first over Idaho at home and its first over the Vandals since 1953, a span of 58 years. It’s the second-longest time between two wins over a program in team history after a span of 62 years between wins over Nevada (1939 to 2001).
BYEING TIME
BYU improves to 7-1 under Bronco Mendenhall and 11-2 in the last 10 years in games following a bye week. The Cougars have outscored their opponents 141-21 in the last three years in games following a bye.
A SMART SCORER
Senior running back Bryan Kariya scored two touchdowns, his third multi-TD game of his career after rushing for two last season against SDSU and scoring twice on a rush and a catch in 2009 at Tulane.
COUNT IT FOR CODY
Cody Hoffman finished the night with 114 yards (a career-high for a half) and two touchdowns in the first half alone along with 38 kickoff return yards. It’s Hoffman’s third 100-yard game and second multi-TD game of the season.
COME ON STRONG
Coming in for an injured Riley Nelson, sophomore Jake Heaps went 11 for 15 for 143 yards and a TD in the first half. Heaps finished with 185 yards on 15 of 20 passing with two touchdowns.
HARK, IT’S LARK
Junior quarterback James Lark played in his fifth career game, throwing 2 for 6 for 21 yards with two rushes for 12 yards. His completions, attempts and rushing yards are all career highs.
RUN LONG
Michael Alisa’s 38-yard TD run in the third quarter is his and the Cougars’ second-longest TD run of the year after the sophomore took one 42 yards to the house against Idaho State.
START OFF RIGHT
BYU allowed 1 pass completion for 2 yards, 1 first down, no points and no third-down conversions in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Cougars allowed three completions, minus-4 yards passing, 3 first downs, no points and 2 third-down conversions. Idaho had minus-2 yards passing and 63 yards total at the half.
RUNNING OUT THE FLAG
BYU was led out of the tunnel today by senior Simote Vea carrying the team flag and sophomore JD Falslev with the special teams flag. The special teams flag, highlighted by an old school BYU logo adopted by the special teams, is a new addition this season. Former BYU quarterback Max Hall carried out the alumni flag.
