PROVO, Utah – BYU senior guard Alex Barcello has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will then select one male candidate who best exemplifies in the four C’s of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men’s Final Four this spring.

Barcello is the leading scorer for a Cougar team that is off to their best start since 2010-11 and ranked No. 24 in the nation. He is scoring 18.6 points per game for a BYU squad that is 7-1 and earned a Top 15 ranking in the month of November for the first time since 1981.

He scored a season-high 25 points in BYU’s 32-point victory over then-No. 12 Oregon at the Phil Knight Invitational at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. en route to being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. On the season, he is shooting 53.6 percent from the floor, 42.5 percent from 3-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.

The Chandler, Ariz. Native has started in all 67 games in Provo where he has scored 861 points with 254 rebounds and 196 assists. The Associated Press All-American ranks first in the BYU record book in 3-point percentage, career effective field goal percentage and single game 3-point makes without a miss.
