LARAMIE -- Jimmer Fredette and Brandon Davies combined to scored 46 points to lead the BYU men’s basketball team to a 69-62 victory over Wyoming Wednesday in Laramie, Wyoming.

"This was a great team win," BYU head coach Dave Rose said. "Wyoming had a lot of fight in them and we couldn’t get rid of them. Wyoming did a great job defending us and we could never really get into a rhythm offensively.”

With 47 seconds remaining in the game, senior Jimmer Fredette converted on a three-point play to make the score 64-60 and seal the Cougars’ seventh conference victory of the season. Fredette, who leads the nation in scoring (27.6 ppg), finished with a game-high 26-points and added three rebounds and two steals.

Davies finished one rebound shy of a double-double, posting nine rebounds to go along with 20 points, two blocks and two steals in the Cougars’ 21st victory of the season.

Senior Jackson Emery added 12 points and three steals to improve his BYU all-time leading total to 210.

After falling behind 14-8, the Cougars found their shooting touch and went on a 15-0 run to take a 23-14 lead with 6:03 remaining in the first half. Up to that point, Davies and Fredette combined for 15 of the Cougars’ 23 points.

With 8:39 remaining in the first half, senior Logan Magnusson recorded BYU’s eighth steal of the night. The Cougars, who average eight steals per game this year, finished the game with 12 takeaways.

The Cowboys did not let up before the break, riding a 10-0 run to take a 26-25 lead after a Desmar Jackson three-pointer at the 2:01 mark. Fredette would put the Cougars back on top with a three-pointer before the Cowboys tied the game at 28 going into the break.

Davies got things going for the Cougars in the second half, scoring four quick points to give the Cougars a 37-34 lead at the 16:07 mark.

Back-and-forth play continued as the Cowboys took a 41-39 lead with 13:59 remaining in the game. Wyoming capitalized on 15 Cougar turnovers, nearly five more than their 10.7 per game average.

“You have to find different ways to win," Rose said. "We really like it when we can get out in transition and get shots possession after possession and tonight we just couldn’t do that because they wouldn’t let us."

Senior Jackson Emery who was 3-of-15 from the field in the last two games coming into the contest, scored five quick points to give BYU a 44-43 lead with 12:18 remaining in the game.

Despite extending their lead to as much as 10, the Cougars nearly relinquished the lead with the Cowboys pulling with one at 61-60 with 2:01 remaining in the game.

BYU returns to the Marriott Center Saturday, Feb. 5, to face UNLV. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. MDT. The game is sold out and will be televised live on VERSUS.
