PROVO -- BYU's Oli Keohohou was selected as on of the fifty-two athletes selected to participate in the Women's National Team Camp for USA Softball, September 26-29 at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The players invited to the September camp are a combination of players from the 2002 Open Tryouts, members of the 2002 Women's World Team that includes softball star Lisa Fernandez, 2002 Elite Team and at-large invitees from universities throughout the nation.á
"I'm excited and a little bit nervous for this opportunity," Keohohou said. "I'm going to have fun and it is an honor to be able to play with the best softball players in the nation."
Keohohou, a native of Newbury Park, Calif., is a two-time consecutive First-team All-American and is entering her junior year of BYU softball.
As a freshman, she made an immediate impact on the team helping them win the 2001 MWC Championships and was selcted as a one of the four finalists for the Honda Softball Award, given to the top player in the nation. She led the NCAA in batting average and slugging percentage in 2001.
Last season, Keohohou led the MWC in several categories, including home runs, batting average, slugging percentage, and RBI. She was selected First-team All-American for the second consecutive year.
"It's exciting for Oli to have this well-deserved invitation to play with the best players in the country," said head coach Gordon Eakin. "We fully expect her to have a good showing."
USA Softball will select a core group of athletes to return to the 2002 National Team Camp in June 2003.á
