Softball Coaches Announce Next Season's Recruits

PROVO -- The BYU women's softball coaches announced two upcoming recruits for the 2003-04 season. They are Jennifer Whiteley from Houston, Texas and Jodi Norton from Mesa, Ariz. The coaching staff is excited about the experience that both these young players will bring to the future success of the Cougars.

Jennifer Whiteley is a lefty from Marabeau Lamar High School in Houston, Texas. Last season, Whiteley played for the defending U-18 Gold National Champion Texas Katy Cruisers.

"We are excited because she is a very complete player," head coach Gordon Eakin said. "She has the speed, bat, arm, instinct, and is an all-around natural athlete,"

Also signed was Jodi Norton from Mesa High School in Arizona. Norton is a right-handed middle infielder who played for the Phoenix Storm U-18 Gold team.

"She is extremely athletic, has natural power and possesses good speed and game instinct," Eakin said. "Both of these players have excellent leadership skills and are great student athletes."

BYU softball will start the 2003 season at the Thunderbird Classic in St. George, Utah hosted by the Southern Utah starting on Jan. 31 with games against Oregon State and Southern Utah.
