ST. GEORGE, Utah -- In the first match up of the season against the Dixie State Rebels, BYU got its first loss Saturday as they spilt the double header to post a 12-1 record for the fall exhibition season.
The Cougars struggled through the first game in the field and at the plate, and the Rebels handed BYU their first loss of the fall season. The mistakes carried over into the second game, but BYU made a come back in the seventh inning to come out with the victory.
"We need to learn how to compete better," head coach Gordon Eakin said. "The team needs to know that if they don't compete a team will surprise them on any given day."
BYU will have another chance to play Dixie on Thursday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Miller Park.
