The first chance to see the BYU women's soccer team that advanced all the way to the Elite Eight will be in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. this Friday night at South Stadium Field.
The game is free to the public and provides both fans and family an opportunity to watch the women's team compete in an intra-squad scrimmage. Coach Jen Rockwood intends on playing a full game with two 45-minute halfs.
Entering the 2004 season, the Cougars are a team full of young athletes. Returning to a team that has grown to 32 players, are 12 freshman and 10 sophomores. Seven juniors and only three seniors will help this young team to develop and improve upon last season's successful run.
The Cougars return 16 letterwinners (six starters) from the team that advanced all the way to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history. BYU, (16-7-3 overall, 4-2-0 in MWC play) finished the year with a No. 14 ranking and a fifth-place finish in the NCAA tournament.
Seven NCAA tournament participants and four top-25 teams highlight the BYU women's soccer season. The Cougar women will play a total of 20 games, 10 at home and 10 on the road.
Free magnets and team posters will be available for all those interested. The coaches and players will be available for autographs after the game.
A FREE Soccer Clinic for all girl youth soccer players between the ages of 8-12 will be at BYU on Saturday, August 21 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Space is limited to the first 200 girls. BYU Women's Soccer Coach Jennifer Rockwood and the 2004 Women's Soccer team will be running the Clinic and will be available for autographs after the camp. Each participant will also receive a BYU soccer poster, bumper sticker and ticket voucher as well as other fun prizes.
The Clinic will take place at Haws Field and the Indoor Practice Field on the campus of BYU located directly west of the Smith Fieldhouse. Walk-n registration forms (waiver and release forms) will be available Saturday morning. Every girl is encouraged to bring their own soccer ball (Please write your name on it) to be used during the Clinic.
