PROVO -- Once again the BYU women's softball team took care of business with a 9-1 victory over UVSC at Miller Field Oct. 7.
For the third time during the fall schedule, the Cougars have claimed a win over the Wolverines in as many tries. BYU head coach, Gordon Eakin said he was pleased with his team's play, especially defensively.
"We played great defense tonight, but again we started slow offensively," Eakin said. "Regardless of who we play, we need to focus on hitting the ball better from the start."
Junior Brooke Boyce started the game on the mound for the Cougars, allowing one run and four hits in two innings. That was all UVSC would score the rest of the way with senior Niki Anderson, junior Summer Tobias, and freshman Daniella Urincho pitching two innings each.
Offensive highlights for the Cougars included a two-run home run by sophomore Jodi Norton in the fourth inning, a two-run home run by junior Ashlyn Russell in the sixth, and a three-run home run by Urincho in the seventh.
BYU's final game this fall is scheduled for Saturday Oct. 16 at 2 p. m. Miller Field.
