PROVO -- Seventeen student-athletes will represent BYU in 16 different events at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Sacramento, Calif. from June 8-11.

BYU Team & Participant Quick Facts

Ten men will represent BYU in 9 different events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships ... Seven women will represent BYU in 7 different events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships ... Nine of the 10 members of the BYU men's team have served Church missions ... The 10th member of the men's track team will leave for his mission to Argentina after the season ... In addition to English, eight different BYU athletes speak a combined total of six different languages ... Foreign languages include: Swedish, Russian, Portuguese, Thai, Spanish and Polish ... BYU has five foreign athletes competing at the NCAA Championships, including two athletes with dual citizenship ... Eight athletes on this year's team are married, including 5 men and 3 women ... Robison Pratt (pole vault) and Rodrigo Mendes (triple jump) currently lead the nation in their respective events ... Mendes has not lost an outdoor competition this season. (He was defeated only once during the indoor season.) ... Twelve of the 17 BYU athletes are ranked in the top-10 of their respective events ... The BYU men have won 23 outdoor league championships since 1968, including eight straight since 1998 ... The BYU women have won 22 of the past 23 outdoor league championships ... Of the 17 athletes representing BYU, 12 currently hold All-America track & field citations ... Twelve of the 17 athletes representing BYU currently hold a combined total of 25 All-America track & field citations ... Eight members of this year's team hold multiple All-America citations ... Lindsey Metcalf is the most decorated member of this year's team, holding six All-America citations ... Metcalf will be going for her fourth outdoor All-America citation in the high jump ... Ten members of the year's team won All-America honors at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships ... Chelsea Smith, who had qualified to compete in the 10,000 meters, will not compete due to injury.
