PROVO -- Coming off its best season ever, BYU concluded its fall schedule today with a perfect 12-0 record by sweeping its final four games at Gail Miller Field.

Overall, BYU head coach Gordon Eakin was pleased with what he saw in this year's fall session.

"Fall practice gave us an idea of what our team will look like in the spring," Eakin said. "Overall I think we were successful and it showed us that we still have a lot of work to do."

Eakin saw plenty of positives from his team during the 12-game fall schedule.

"The most pleasant surprise was the team depth that emerged," he said. "We look to be very deep this year as a team. Past starters were pushed by newcomers and that was encouraging to see."

BYU senior pitcher Brooke Boyce capped the tournament by pitching a two-hit shut out against Delta College in the Cougars final game.

In the weekend tournament, BYU played Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.) and San Joaquin Delta College (Calif.), beating each team twice. The Cougars beat Mt. San Antonio 7-5 and 15-2 and Delta College 10-0 and 8-0.

The Cougars out scored their competition by a 101-25 margin in the 12 victories.

BYU played against six different teams in its fall exhibition schedule. Four of the Cougars opponents were in-state teams, including Division I foes Utah Valley State and Southern Utah. BYU also played games against Dixie State and Snow College.

Although the victories do not count toward BYU's overall spring record, the games provided the Cougars with an opportunity to stay sharp.

The spring schedule begins in early February, when BYU travels to Hawai`i to play its first tournament of the 2006 season on Feb. 9. The Cougars will open against Southern Mississippi.

BYU's first home games of 2006 will be against UNLV on Mar. 30, 2006. The players and coaches are already counting down.

"I look for this team to go to the next level," Eakin said. "They have each year that I have been here and I expect them to do it this year."
