COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU freshman Mindy Neeley has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. This is her first career weekly honor.
"I think it's awesome for a freshman to be named Athlete of the Week," Coach Craig Poole said. "She's talented and has a lot more to give and look forward to. It's quite an honor for her."
Neeley, from Santa Barbara, Calif., won the long jump, finished second in the 100-meter dash (12.05) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.94) at the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif., last week to earn the honor. Her mark of 19 feet 10.75 inches (6.07m) in the long jump was her best as a collegian and currently ranks third in the nation.
