PROVO -- The No. 23 Cougars open up the 2006 season at home this weekend as BYU will take on Weber State Friday evening at 7 p.m. With head coach Jennifer Rockwood at the helm and a talented collection of returning players and newcomers, the Cougars hope to start the year on the right foot and prove why they are the preseason favorite to win the Mountain West Conference title.

"We're excited for this rematch," head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "Weber State is a capable team, but we have a talented team this year as well. We are very deep, which should be a great advantage to us over the course of the season."

The two foes have faced each other 10 times since 1996 with BYU amassing a 9-0-1 advantage. Last season the Cougars met Weber State twice, winning one and tying the other. On Sept. 2, BYU hounded the Wildcats, easily winning 5 goals to none. Weber State continued to improve over the season, however, and advanced off penalty kicks in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
