PROVO -- Both the BYU men's and women's tennis teams played tough matches Saturday and racked up impressive wins in their respective touraments.

BYU's women's tennis team redeemed themselves on the doubles court Saturday in Honolulu by winning three of its four matches. Lauren Jones and Sofia Holden got their first doubles win of the season by beating Hawaii's Kana Aikawa and Chole Bihag, 8-4. Anastasia Sourkova and Jenny Miccoli won convincingly against Hawaii Pacific's Anastasia Ageychik and Stephani Bigom, 8-1, and Chie Hayasaka and Dolly Chang beat UHP's Lauren Shin and Elena Hudzikova, 8-4.

Other big news for the women's team include wins by Chang, Sourkova, Rana El Derwy and Jocelyn Jensen who all remained undefeated in singles in the tournament. Miccoli had to pull out of her match against Ramona Husaru of BYU-Hawaii in the second set due to injury.

The underclassmen from the men's team had some significant wins in the second day of the 2006 Bronco Classic at the University of Santa Clara Saturday. Albert Nercessyan came back from a tough first set to beat Oregon's Eric Pickard in the fourth round of Flight C to win 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 with his teammates cheering him on courtside. Cassidy Mears also beat UC San Diego's Blake Meister in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Due to BYU policy of not playing on Sunday, the team pulled out of the tournament after Saturday's matches.
