WILLIAMSBURG -- BYU's fourth-ranked Daniel Summerhays continued to climb up the leaderboard at the 2007 NCAA National Championship on Friday as he carded yet another round in the 60's to sit tied for fourth place and only one shot from the lead heading into Saturday's final round.

Coming off an impressive second round, Summerhays tried to keep his momentum going into Friday. He hit it into the rough a couple of times at the beginning of the round which made it hard to get it going. However, he responded to a double bogey on his 11th hole with four birdies in the last seven holes to climb up four places into fourth with a two-under-par 68 for the day and a five-under-par 205 total.

"He's been very patient and he's just putting extremely well," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank, "When he gets putting anything can happen."

At the National Championship cuts are made following Friday's action for Saturday's final round, to include the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on those 15 teams. In this, the 110th Annual NCAA Championship, three of those six individuals are within one shot of the lead.

"It's amazing to make the cut as an individual, you've got to be playing well and he's been playing his guts out the whole time," said Brockbank, "If he gives himself some good looks tomorrow and if he's able to roll the putter like he has been, tomorrow could be a very interesting day."

With only 18 holes of competition left, the BYU junior looks to have the best finish of a BYU individual golfer at the NCAA Finals on Saturday morning. In BYU's storied golf history, no individual golfer has ever claimed a National Championship. Check for official tee times and follow Summerhays' game live on golfstat.com
