PROVO -- The No. 68 BYU men's tennis team hopes to build on its 2-0 start to the season when it hosts Eastern Washington University on Saturday, after winning two hard-fought matches against Utah State and Weber State last weekend.
"We're expecting a tough match," said Cougar head coach Brad Pearce. "Our theme this year is 'One week at a time.' Utah State and Weber State are in the past and now we're focusing on Eastern Washington. We're not focusing on anyone else but them."
After suffering an ankle sprain against Utah State, senior Jonathan Sanchez will practice for the first time on Wednesday. His status on Saturday will help determine BYU's singles lineup against the Eagles.
Posting a 2-4 team doubles record in its first two matches of the season, BYU has made several changes in an attempt to improve that record.
"The past few days we've been looking at some different combinations in doubles," said Pearce. "We feel comfortable with the combinations we have now. Now it's just a matter of having them hit a lot of balls together."
Admission to the match is free and will be held at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts at 5:30 p.m. following the women's match against Arkansas at noon. The facility is located directly south of the Smith Fieldhouse and east of the soccer field. All BYU parking is open to the public on Saturdays.
