TUCSON -- After three rounds of play at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate, BYU finished in 11th place and junior Nick Killpack lead all Cougars tied for 31st place at 6-over-par, Tuesday.
"I hoped we could have started off with more momentum today," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "But we shot some double-bogeys and stumbled a little bit."
Killpack shot 219 on the par-71 Arizona National Golf Course, which was set at 6,793 yards. Following Killpack on the BYU roster were Adam Tebbs at 221, Esteban Calisto at 224 and Brady Johnson at 224.
In the coming weeks, the team looks to improve on their putting.
"Our putting was less than mediocre today, and that's where the game is," Tebbs said.
The Ping Arizona Intercollegiate consisted of 87 players from 16 teams. The overall individual winner was Kevin Chappell of UCLA who shot 67-67-64-198. The University of Tennessee won the tournament with a team score of 20-under-par.
The Cougars' next tournament will be at the John H. Burns Invitational in Honolulu on February 20, 21 and 22.
