HONOLULU -- The BYU men's golf team sits tied for 17th place after one round at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, with freshman Esteban Calisto leading the Cougars tied for 30th place at 1-under-par.
The John A. Burns Intercollegiate is a 21-team tournament including 110 competitors and is being held at the par-72 Leilehua Golf Course. The tournament tees are set at 6,917 yards.
"Today we made a lot of rickety mistakes," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. "But we did hit some good fairway shots."
Sophomores Brady Johnson and Robbie Fillmore are two strokes behind Calisto at 1-over-par tied for 56th place. Fellow Cougars Adam Tebbs and Nick Killpack look to improve their scores in round two of the tournament.
"We're working hard to get better out of the snow," Brockbank said. "I hope the next few days we can build some confidence."
The three-day tournament continues Thursday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
