WESTLAKE VILLAGE -- The BYU men's golf team overcame strong winds and a challenging course to reach third place after two rounds at the USC Collegiate Invitational.
"It's always fun to come to North Ranch [Country Club] and test our skills," said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank.
The USC Collegiate Invitational is a 14-team tournament featuring several of the nations top teams, including No. 3 UCLA, No. 7 Stanford, and No. 8 USC. It is being held at the par-71 North Ranch Country Club. The tournament tees are set at 6,869 yards.
With strong winds in the first round, the Cougars shot 27-over-par. But the team battled hard in the second round and came back with a score of 6-over-par.
Sophomore Robbie Fillmore currently leads the Cougars tied for 8th place at 6-over-par.
Freshman Adam Tebbs and Esteban Calisto also had strong performances in the second round as they both fired an even-par-71.
The team hopes to finish strong tomorrow.
"The tournament is not over yet," Fillmore said. "We need to continue to push ourselves and stay strong mentally."
The final round of the USC Collegiate Invitational will be played Tuesday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
