PROVO -- Gaining momentum and looking to build on the success of the 2007 season, the reigning Mountain West Conference tournament champion BYU women’s soccer team continues to prepare for the season and the upcoming Blue and White game.

“The girls have been working extremely hard over the past week and our staff had been impressed with the direction we are heading,” said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. “The team is anxious and excited about the challenging schedule ahead.”

The annual Blue and White game will be kick off Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Haws Field. The field is located just west of the Indoor Practice Facility. Admission to the game is free. The game will be the first chance for fans to see the Cougars, who are picked to win the MWC this season.

“We always look forward to the Blue/White game since it means our first game of the new season is just around the corner,” said Rockwood. “The Blue/White gives our team a more game like scenario to compete in, and the staff has the opportunity to evaluate players in preparation for our match against Cal Poly.”

The Cougars begin the 2008 campaign on the road against Cal Poly on Friday, August 22 and then head to LSU on Aug. 25.

The team’s first regular season game at South Field is Aug. 29 against Georgia at 7:00 p.m. On Sept. 1, the team will face the Wildcats of Arizona at 4:00 p.m.
