PROVO -- All-America candidate Austin Collie has been named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Collie had nine catches for a career high 155 yards and a touchdown, leading No. 8/9 BYU to a 21-3 victory over New Mexico. Collie has more than 100 yards receiving in each of the last four games.
The 6-foot-2, 206-pound junior from El Dorado Hills, Calif., is currently No. 2 nationally and leads the MWC in receiving yards per game at 112.7. His 7.8 receptions per game and 673 receiving yards are fifth nationally and also tops in the conference.
Trailing New Mexico 3-0 with 11:38 remaining in the second quarter, Max Hall hit Collie on a 58-yard strike down to the Lobo 21-yard line. Five plays later, BYU scored to take a 7-3 lead.
Six of Collie’s final seven receptions converted first downs for the Cougars, while seven of his nine catches went for 11-yards or more.
Collie accounted for 155 of BYU's 285 receiving yards (54 percent). With 3:05 to play in the game, he hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Hall to put the game away at 21-3.
Collie now has 2,390 career receiving yard, good for seventh all-time at BYU. His 10 career 100-yard receiving games is tied for third all-time with Phil Odle and Margin Hooks.
