DALLAS -- Round two of the Baylor Intercollegiate proved to be successful for the BYU men’s golf team as they rallied from a mediocre first round earlier in the day to finish in eighth place at 29-over-par.

The Cougars shot a +22 306 in the first round of play at Royal Oaks Country Club to fight back in the second round and finish at +7 291 in a field of 12 teams.

The Cougars were led by junior Brady Johnson, who finished the day at even-par and in third place overall. Johnson improved by four strokes between the rounds and from tenth place after round one. He made four birdies in the second round with just two bogeys.

The Cougars battled a cold, windy day, which partly accounted for the slow beginning. Despite the strong second round, the team struggled to finish well as they suffered a few bogeys in critical moments.

“We’re playing good golf between sloppy golf,” head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “There were times we looked a little silly in the first round, but the afternoon was completely different. We’ve just got to learn to be consistent.”

Junior Robbie Fillmore is tied for 25th place as he sits at eight-over-par, advancing from No. 44 after round one. He made five birdies in the second round, but also suffered four bogeys.

"I think we learned to just play better over time with the wind," Johnson said. "We had a few hard breaks, but otherwise we played great in the second round."

Freshmen Jordan Hammer and Jordan Rodgers continue to impress, as both made their first collegiate starts. Senior Nick Killpack is tied at No. 43, improving by three strokes to finish at 13-over-par. The trio made several birdies throughout the day to help solidy the eighth-place finish.
