PROVO -- Looking to duplicate their success from 2008, the 2009 BYU women’s soccer team will face a variety of tough opponents from nine different conferences. Four Cougar opponents advanced to the NCAA tournament and finished ranked in 2008. Nine 2009 opponents participated in their conference tournaments. Two, Oklahoma State and West Virginia, finished ranked in the top 15 at the end of the 2008 season.

“We believe that our 2009 non-conference schedule will be very challenging but will ultimately help us to prepare to be our best in time for conference play,” said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. “We look forward to traveling throughout the country to be tested on the road against several nationally proven opponents. The team loves to play at South Field in front of our amazing fans, and I know they can’t wait for the first home games over Labor Day weekend.”

The annual Blue and White game will be played on Wed., Aug. 12, at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars will invite Dixie State to Provo for a pre-season exhibition game at South Field. The game will start at 7:00 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 15. Both games will be in University Park, Penn.

The first regular-season game at South Field will take place on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7:00 p.m., when the William & Mary Tribe visit Provo. Oklahoma State will take on the Cougars at South Field on Monday, Sept. 7. The game will kick off at noon.

BYU will then head on the road to play four consecutive road games. The first game will be against Washington State, on Thurs., Sept. 10, at 3:00 p.m. The Cougars will the face Montana on Sat. Returning to South Field, BYU will take on in-state foes Southern Utah on Wed., Sept. 23, and Utah State on Sat., Sept 26. PAC-10 foe Oregon will come to Provo and face the Cougars on Thurs., Oct. 1. All three games will begin at 7:00 p.m.

To open 2009 Mountain West Conference play, the Cougars will host in-state rival Utah at South Field on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8:00 p.m. BYU will then take on San Diego State in San Diego on Thurs., Oct. 8 at 3:00 p.m., and visit Las Vegas, on Sat., Sept. 10 to face off against UNLV at 1:00 p.m. The Cougars will then return home to host the New Mexico Lobos on Thurs., Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m., before welcoming the TCU Horned Frogs to Provo on Sat., Oct. 17, for a 7:00 p.m. match.

BYU will then travel to Air Force to play the Falcons on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 5:00 p.m. The Cougars will then step out of conference play for a game and travel up to Ogden, Utah, to take on the Weber State Wildcats. The game will be played on Wed., Oct. 28, and begin at 3:00 p.m.
