PROVO -- Accomplished Utah golfer Colton Ogden has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the BYU men’s golf team in the fall of 2010. A four-time all-state honoree, Ogden will bring talent and depth to the Cougar squad.
“Colton is a hard worker, is extremely dedicated and likes to compete and play,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “He will really develop and turn into an impact player for our program. He has the qualities to be a great leader for our team. He comes from a great family who is very supportive.”
A native of West Point, Utah, Ogden was honored as one of the top golfers in the state all four of his high school seasons. Competing at Clearfield High School as a freshman and then finishing at Syracuse High School after its completion, Ogden was the team MVP all four years and won the region tournament individual title as a junior. He helped his team win the region tournament as a sophomore and junior while taking second at the state level both years.
In October, Ogden led his team to the state title while tying for medalist honors and finishing second in a playoff. In addition to his prolific high school career, Ogden has also competed in several amateur tournaments, including the Eddie Hogan Cup, the PGA Westfield Junior and Junior Worlds in 2009. In 2008, he won the Desert Junior Tournament in Phoenix.
Born to Bruce and Susan Ogden, Colton is the younger brother of former BYU standout golfer Clay Ogden. In October, Colton broke his brother’s high school record shooting a 61 in a regional tournament. In addition to golf, Ogden enjoys boating and playing basketball. He plans to study recreation management at BYU.
“I’m really excited to come to BYU and be part of the team,” said Ogden. “I know quite a few of the players on the team and am already pretty good friends with them. I love Coach Brockbank and Coach Miller. BYU has the perfect people and is the perfect place to help me achieve my goals.”
