PROVO -- The Cougars began their 2010 spring schedule by hosting an all-day indoor tournament on Saturday where they came away winning two of their three games.
“I think overall it was a great experience for us today,” said head coach Jennifer Rockwood. “It was good for us to see some things we can work on.”
Every rostered Cougar saw action in each of the three games that were played.
The first game was a 3-0 victory over Weber State with goals from Kassidy Shumway, Amber Wadsworth and Lindsi Lisonbee. Wadsworth’s goal came off an assist by Carlee Payne and Lisonbee’s goal came off a corner kick by Kristi Dow-Jackson.
The second game against Westminister was won with another goal from Wadsworth off an assist from Lauren Anderson.
BYU’s final game was played against Utah State. The Cougars fell 0-1 but dominated the majority of the game on offense, taking more shots on goal and keeping the ball in Utah State’s backfield for most of the game.
“Today’s games were good learning experiences,” said Junior Auna Janis. “It was a good opportunity for us to work on playing as a team and to take away something to use during the season. Spring games are a fun way for us to stay in shape and get better on the field.”
The Cougars will continue their spring schedule with a trip to Arizona next weekend where they will play Arizona State and Nebraska on Saturday, April 6.
