PROVO -- BYU men’s golf head coach Bruce Brockbank was named to a two-year term as the 28th president of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Thursday.
Brockbank has led the Cougars to 37 tournament wins, including conference titles in 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2007. During the just completed 2009-10 campaign, he guided the golf team to its 18th appearance in the NCAA Regionals. In 1999-2000, he led BYU to seven tournament wins, more than any other team in the nation, and was named the 2000 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year. He has earned conference Coach of the Year five different times including WAC Coach of the Year in 1994 and again in 1999 and back-to-back Coach of the Year honors in 2006 and 2007.
He became BYU’s head coach in April of 1992 after stellar amateur and professional careers. Before becoming head coach, Brockbank served for four years as an assistant to BYU Hall of Fame Coach Karl Tucker.
As a player, he was named First Team All-WAC twice as well as earning Third Team All-America and Academic All-America accolades during his senior season in 1988. In that final year of play for the Cougars, he also won medalist honors at the prestigious Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Established in 1958, this non-profit organization is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing its members who participate in men’s golf at all levels. Through its established events and programs, the GCAA maintains a goal of increasing awareness and the status of men’s golf.”
