PROVO, Utah – Twenty years ago, BYU women's soccer played its first game against Colorado College on Sept. 2, 1995. Two days later the Cougars earned their first win with a 2-1 victory over Wyoming. Four days after that, BYU beat Utah for the first time 3-1. BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood was on the sideline that day and continues to lead the Cougars now 324 victories later.

Part of BYU's success has been the players who have come through Provo. This list of the 22 best players of the past 20 years was put together by Rockwood and her staff and covers from that first game in 1995 to anyone who isn't currently on the roster this year.

Goalkeepers

McKinzie Olson (2008-2011)

Olson owns the program records for career saves and goals against average (GAA) with 280 and 0.53, respectively. Olson was a four-year starter in goal.

Erica Owens (2009-2013)

Owens only played two years in goal, but in two seasons she managed to become top five in BYU history in saves, shutouts and GAA. She also led the Cougars to the Elite 8 in 2012.

Defenders

Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall (2009-2012)

Cutshall is one of six Cougars to be named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List and is the only one to be named a semifinalist. Cutshall played in 89 games, starting 88 of them. She is also the most prolific goal-scoring defender in BYU history with 13.

Andrea Willis (2005-2009)

Willis was also named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2009. She was a two-time MWC Defensive Player of the Year and anchored defenses that recorded four of the five most shutouts in a season in BYU history.

Jessica Harmon Carter (2005-2008)

Carter was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List and played every minute of her senior season on a defense that only allowed 11 goals in back-to-back seasons.

Staci Reynolds (1997-2000)

Reynolds played the fourth most games in BYU history, getting on the field 95 times in her career. She also leads all defenders in assists with 16 over her career.

Athelia Graham (1996-2000)

Graham and teammate Sara Reading Atuaia are the career leaders in games played for the Cougars. Graham was one goal shy of being the only defender with double digit goals and assists. 

Ashley Bazzarone (2009-2012)

Played alongside Cutshall on the Elite 8 team in 2012 and the majority of the three years previous.

Midfielders

Jaime Rendich Beck (2002-2005)

Beck is still top 10 in goals, points and assists for the Cougars. Her season career highs included 11 goals her senior year and 10 assists as a sophomore. Her sophomore year she helped BYU reach the Elite 8 for the first time in program history.

Sara Reading Atuaia (1997-2000)

Reading scored 52 goals in her four years as a Cougar and is tied for the second most in program history. She is second in shots, third in points and 11th in assists for her career.

Michelle Jensen Peterson (1995-1997, 1999-2000)

Peterson is still sixth in goals, second in assists and is one of two Cougars to ever score multiple hat tricks. She also had top five seasons in goals scored and assists, the only player to do both.

Aleisha Cramer Rose (2000-2003)

Rose is the career assists leader at BYU with 47. Her senior year she helped the Cougars reach the Elite 8 for the first time. She was also the Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2001 as awarded by U.S. Soccer.

Cloee Colohan Marble (2012-2013)

After transferring from Portland, Colohan played two seasons in the BYU midfield. Her senior year she helped the Cougars to the Elite 8 along with Manning and Ringwood who are also on the list.

Rachel Manning Jorgensen (2010-2013)

Manning played in 85 games for the Cougars over her four years. As a holding midfielder she was nicknamed "The Magnet" for her skill in finding, winning or taking away the ball, especially in the air.

Jessica Ringwood Apo (2009-2012)

Apo played in 88 games starting in 85 of them. She is 14th in career goals and seventh in career shots.

Jennie Christianson Smith (1998-2001)

Smith played in the sixth most games ever for a Cougar and is still 16th on the career assists list.

Forwards

Shauna Rohbock (1995-1998)

Rohbock is the leading goal scorer in BYU history by a large margin. She has the third most goals in a season in NCAA history and is eighth in the NCAA in career goals and 14th in career points.

Maren Hendershot McCrary (1996-1999)

McCrary is second in goals and points and third in assists at BYU. Five times she earned double digit goals or assists, doing both her freshman year.

Katie Larkin (2005-2008)

Larkin was named to the two-time Hermann Trophy Watch List as she scored double digit goals twice in her career. Larkin is still 10th in career goals at BYU.

Carlee Payne Holmoe (2009-2012)

Holmoe stormed onto the scene her freshman year with 13 goals and 10 assists. Her senior year she helped lead the Cougars to the Elite 8 and is top 10 in goals, points and assists at BYU.

Kim Lowe Halladay (1997-2000)

Halladay is the Cougars' third leading assist maker in history, but also is seventh in goals scored and sixth in points. Her senior year she totaled 11 goals and 15 assists.

Jeni Willardson Viernes (1999-2002)

Viernes once scored four goals in a game and is tied for fourth in career goals at BYU. She went 13 straight games with a point in 2002.
