DANVILLE, Calif. — Tying individually for 14th place, Spencer Dunaway helped BYU to a sixth-place tie after round one of the West Coast Conference Championship on Monday.

"We didn't play our best today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "After the (PING Cougar) Classic last week, I thought we might see a much better performance. We unfortunately hit some loose shots and that cost us. We will need one of our best rounds of the year tomorrow."

The Cougars shot a total team score of 292 through day one and sit at 4 over after the first 18 holes of play. BYU birdied 10 holes as a team on Monday.

Starting the day on the front nine, Dunaway shot 1 under through the first six holes. Dunaway finished his first nine holes at 1 over but got back to 1 under on the day after birdying holes 14 and 17 on the back nine.

Shooting even par, Patrick Fishburn sits in 18th place individually after Monday’s round. Fishburn eagled the fifth hole to help him shoot 1 under over the front nine.

CJ Lee is tied for 22nd place overall. He carded a 74 in Monday's round of 18. Lee finished the round shooting 1 under on the back nine. Teammate Zach Pritchard shot 3 over for his round of play, including a 1-under score on the front nine. He is tied for 16th place.

Austen Christiansen, who is tied for 32nd, tallied a 76 on Monday. Christiansen shot 1 over on the front nine and 3 over on the back.
