Summer fan events kick off 2018 fall season

PROVO, Utah —  A variety of fan events are scheduled to take place in preparation for BYU football's season opener on Sept. 1 at Arizona in Tucson. 

BYU50, the annual social media campaign that allows Cougar fans all over the world to share in the buildup to the season and win BYU merchandise, continues its sweep across the country with its featured day in Utah taking place on Saturday, Aug. 4. In addition, fans can take advantage of a several other events in August, including Movie Night at LaVell Edwards Stadium (Aug. 3), Cougar Kickoff (Aug. 14) and Cougar Sale (Aug. 14). 

“The Greatest Showman" Movie Night at LaVell Edwards Stadium (Aug. 3)

Movie Night at LaVell Edwards Stadium takes place Friday night, Aug. 3. Gates 1 and 11 will open at 8:30 p.m. with the movie “The Greatest Showman” starting at 9:15 p.m. Parking will be available in the south and southeast lots on movie night. Fans should bring blankets (no chairs) to sit on the field. The event is FREE. Concessions will be available for purchase. 

BYU50 (visits Utah on Aug. 4)

BYU50 is set to sweep through the state of Utah on Saturday, Aug. 4. By following BYU on Twitter (@BYUCougars), Facebook (Facebook.com/BYUFootball), Instagram (BYU Cougars), fans all across the state will have the opportunity to locate and win BYU boxes filled with Nike swag placed throughout Utah during the day.  Follow BYU on social media and use the hashtag #BYU50. 

Cougar Kickoff (Aug. 14)

The 14th annual Cougar Kickoff is scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Haws Field (west of the Indoor Practice Facility). Cougar Club members can attend starting at 5:45 p.m. Athletes from the football, women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s gymnastics and cross country teams will be on hand to meet with fans, sign autographs and run a variety of games and drills with kids. The festivities include free posters, face painting and balloon animals as well as the chance to take photos with Cosmo, the Cheer team and the Cougarettes. Admission is free.

Cougar Sale (Aug. 14)

In conjunction with Cougar Kickoff, the annual Cougar Sale takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 14 in the adjacent Indoor Practice Facility from 5-7 p.m. Cougar Club members can gain early admission at 4:30 p.m. by presenting their membership card. The Cougar Sale allows fans to pick up gameday shirts and purchase athletic department clothing and gear at discounted prices. Admission is free.

Big Blue Bash (Aug. 25)

The Big Blue Bash is a fun and exciting family friendly football event taking place at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday, Aug. 25. The event begins at 6 p.m. with activities, inflatables and food trucks with concessions for purchase. The program starts at 7 p.m. and will feature BYU head coach Kalani Sitake, the Voice of the Cougars Greg Wrubell, BYUtv analyst Blaine Fowler and BYU Sports Nation's Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan.
