PROVO, Utah – The BYU gymnastics team continued preparation for the 2018 season with the annual Blue and White Meet on Friday night in the Smith Fieldhouse.
"There were some great highlights, but it wasn't perfect," BYU head coach Guard Young said. "There are some mistakes that we need to clean up and we have a month to do it. I think it was really good for our girls to come out and compete. This event gives a lot of experience to some of the girls who may not break into the lineup this year."
2018 All-American Shannon Evans finished the night with the highest all-around score at 38.675, taking the top score on two of the four events. Abbey Boden took first on the beam, finishing with an all-around score of 38.175 while Brianna Pearson recorded the highest score on floor.
Evans recorded the top scores on vault and bars with a 9.800 and 9.750, respectively. Abbey Miner and Adeline Rieder shared the second highest score on vault with a 9.775 while Haley Pitou and Helody Cyrenne posted a 9.725 on bars. Boden took the top score on beam with a 9.800 and Pearson recorded a 9.850 for a meet-high on floor.
"We have a lot of freshman, so this was the first time they have done a meet like this," Young said. "We do this for their learning opportunity and to get more experience."
The Cougars will host their 2019 season opener against the University of Utah in the Marriott Center on Jan. 11, 2019. The meet begins at 7 p.m. MST and will be televised live on BYUtv with live stats available on the schedule page.
