PROVO, Utah – BYU head softball coach Gordon Eakin released the softball team’s 2020 schedule Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars begin their season with six tournaments across the country, one international trip and will host their own tournament.
BYU will match up against three 2019 World Series teams including the runner-up Oklahoma, who also won the title in 2017 and 2016. The Cougars will face Oklahoma in the first tournament of the season and will take on Arizona and Alabama, the other two World Series teams, later in the season. Ten of the teams that BYU will play advanced to the NCAA Regionals, with four making it to the Super Regionals.
BYU will also take on team Mexico, who will participate in the 2020 Olympics in the last tournament before the regular season begins.
The 57-game schedule includes teams from all of the Power Five conferences including five from the Pac-12, three from the Big 12, two from both the Big Ten and SEC as well as one from the ACC. In addition, the Cougars will face in-state rivals Utah, Utah Valley University, Utah State and Southern Utah University throughout the season. In a premier non-conference matchup, BYU will host Stanford on April 27 at Gail Miller Field.
The season opens on Feb. 6 against Nevada at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico. Other tournaments that BYU will travel to include the San Diego Classic, Mary Nutter Collegiate Class, Judy Garman Tournament, Fresno State Tournament, Alabama Invitational and University of Arizona Invitational.
The Cougars will play their first home game on March 19 against Montana in the BYU's tournament at Gail Miller Field which will also include North Dakota State. The defending WCC champions open conference play at Pacific on April 3 and conclude the regular season on May 9 at San Diego.
