PROVO, Utah – In its 25th year, the BYU women's soccer team experienced a historical season after earning a 21-1-1 overall record, a second-consecutive West Coast Conference Championship and a quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Head coach Jennifer Rockwood is now a seven-time coach of the year honoree after leading her team to a successful season. This is the fourth time she earned the honors from the WCC (2012, 14, 18, 19). Following her 25th season, she now boasts a 396-114-44 overall record for a 75.5 percent winning percentage.
In addition to Rockwood’s conference award, the coaching staff was recognized for the impressive season as they were named the United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year.
The Cougars started the season on the road at Alabama and Mississippi State to kick off the year with a pair of wins as they went on to boast a 13-0 record in non-conference games. In preseason play, BYU claimed a 2-0 win over instate rival Utah and 2-0 victories over nationally-ranked Texas A&M (12) and Kansas (14).
WCC play kicked off at Santa Clara as the Cougars claimed their only tie of the season. After falling behind 2-0, BYU fought back to even the game and stay undefeated on the year. The Cougars went on to win the next eight games to take the conference title while outscoring their opponents 39-6 in league action.
After receiving the automatic bid and earning a No. 2 seed, BYU entered the NCAA tournament as the only undefeated team in the nation and an 18-0-1 record.
At South Field, the Cougars hosted Boise State in the NCAA First Round and claimed a dominant 5-1 win. BYU then hosted the Second and Third Rounds at South Field. The Cougars took a 4-0 win over ACC opponent Louisville to advance and play NC State. The Wolfpack advanced to the third round with a victory over Arkansas. BYU walked away with a 3-0 win and its third appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The season came to an end in the Quarterfinals as Stanford took a 5-1 win over the Cougars. The Cardinal went on to win the College Cup.
Multiple players received a variety of postseason awards, including Mikayla Colohan, Elise Flake and Alyssa Jefferson who were all named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and Scholar All-Americans. Flake and Colohan were also named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, making it the first time two players were recognized in the same season.
In addition to being recognized as a First Team All-American and a First Team Scholar All-American, Colohan was named WCC Player of the Year. She was also named to the All-WCC First Team, All-West Region First Team, Scholar All-West Region First Team and a finalist for the Honda Sport Award. On the season, she recorded 16 goals, seven assists, 39 points and 98 shots.
As a forward, Flake was also named to the Scholar All-America First Team, All-WCC First Team, All-West Region First Team, Scholar All-West Region First Team and espnW's All-America Team. She led the explosive offense with 20 goals, seven assists, 47 points and 81 shots. Six of her goals were game-winners.

The Cougars lose seven seniors but will return five of their starters for the 2020 season. The incoming class features five new athletes and BYU will also have two returned missionaries and three transfers join the roster in the fall.
Spring competition will kick off in Las Vegas on Mar. 7.
