Rankings and Recognition
BYU women's track and field continues to boast a top-10 spot, coming in at No. 9 in the USTFCCCA's latest ranking. The Texas Tech Shootout will provide a key opportunity for the BYU women to face top competition as they face athletes from future Big 12 counterparts No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 12 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Baylor.
While the BYU men's team fell out of the top-25 on Monday, it's distance medley relay team and All-American pole vaulter stand among the best in the country. Zach McWhorter tightened his grip on the Division I men's pole vaulter lead with his 5.85m/19-2.25 mark set at the Columbia Challenge on Feb. 4.
Garrett Marsing, Cortez Ruiz, Austin Klingler and Aidan Troutner combined to run a 9:43.77 relay at Columbia, good for No. 12 nationally and in position for nationals qualification.
Courtney Wayment maintains her hold on the national lead in women's 3000 and 5000m. Wayment holds the 5000m lead by nearly 12 seconds over NC State's Kelsey Chmiel.
Claire Seymour clocked a 2:04.84 in the women's 800m at Columbia on Saturday. This ranks Seymour No. 8 in the country, ahead of Virginia Tech's Lindsey Butler and Katy-Ann McDonald of LSU. Cierra Tidwell is tied with Wake Forest's Emma Soderstrom for the No. 12 women's high jump mark.
McWhorter and Wayment are each featured on The Bowerman Mid-Season Watch Lists. BYU joins Florida, Arizona State and Oregon as the only programs in the country with an athlete on both the men's and women's watch lists for the highest honor in collegiate track and field.
